29th December 2015
Today just made the cut as one of the best days I’ve had in 2015.. Our early morning drive to Crescent Head was well worth the effort. Sheltered from the howling wind that has shadowed us the entire the coast, the beautiful Crescent Head today turned on today for the holiday makers and surfers alike. Getting a car park along the foreshore amongst surfer’s vans proved to be the most difficult task of the day.
Amanda and I finally got the chance to wear our new bikinis and surf the best waves I’ve had since returning from the Maldives. Scattered all the way along the beach like sprinkles on a chocolate donut, surfers dotted the lineup on colourful short boards, fishes and long boards. Everyone was out to make the most of the epic sunshine and waves on offer.
After a super fun session in the water, we sat in the sunshine and ate the yummiest gourmet beef and fish burgers by the beachside. Exploring this little gem of a town was a must, so we dodged the skateboards and coloured bicycles on the beachside path and made our way to the top of the escarpment at the headland.
It was just so nice to see the sunshine, be unbuckled from our seat belts, have salt back on our skin and in our hair, and be out enjoying Mother Nature on this fine fine morning. Unfortunately all good things need to come to an end and as we are on a little bit of a tight schedule this road trip, we needed to keep on trucking further up the coast. After coming to a frustrating halt and coming face to face with a traffic jam, the car was quickly filled with two high pitched voices singing lyrics to Jack Johnson’s ‘Banana Pancakes.’..our little attempt to keep our happy surf vibes and endorphins flowing from this morning’s session.
We pulled off the highway and checked out both Park and Diggers Beach at Coffs Harbour, the second of which was also a little protected from the howling southerly. Jumping back in the car we drove on until sunset. We set up camp on the north coast and are going to bed reminiscing on a fab day that will stand out in the memory bank of our East Coast Road Trip, and if not, out of 2015 as a whole.
