WEEKLY WANDERER: SARAH DIVES INDO

Sarah Osio
TELL US ABOUT YOUR TIME IN RAJA AMPAT, INDONESIA

I am a new diver while my fiancé had long been diving even before we met. Our deep-seated love for the underwater world finally pushed us hard enough to take a 2-week trip to Raja Ampat, Indonesia.

We took a couple of dives and had great encounters with some of our marine friends such as Giant Oceanic Manta Rays, Sharks, Turtles, Napoleon Fish, BumpHead Parrot Fish, Tunas, School of Jacks and many more. Probably the highlight of this trip was coming up close with (1) a Giant Oceanic Manta Ray – the largest type of ray in the world, (2) Wobeggong sharks, chiefly found in Australia and Indonesia and finally (3) a pygmy seahorse – the smallest seahorse species in the world.

The experience was just surreal.

WHAT WAS THE HIGHLIGHT OF THE TRIP?

The highlight of this trip was diving in Blue Magic. Although it was a struggle due to strong currents, seeing the 6-meter wide Giant Oceanic Manta so close was just beyond wonderful. I was speechless.

Most unexpected thing you loved?

In between dives we saw a giant manta jump out of the water. Imagine the splash! Everybody was in awe.
